Coated Wheatens come in two coat types. One type is the Irish coat, the
other is considered an American coat. The Irish coat is a slower maturing
coat, thinner and straighter as an adolescent, very wavy as an adult. The
Irish coat is found predominantly in dogs of European ancestry but there are
now many in North America. Irish pedigree dogs can also have a heavier coat.

attributed to variations in breeding choices rather than differences in breed.
